6 Pesky Problems We All Deal with (Solutions Included)

6 Pesky Problems We All Deal with (Solutions Included)
I wrote this post because I listened to a speech about what to blog/write about, and one of the things they talked about was things that piss you off. So here goes… I tried to some up with solutions, but I came up short for a few of them.
  1. Number Locks
  2. Office Hours
  3. Car wash streaks
  4. Gym Attire
  5. Microsoft Outlook
  6. The Power Button

1. Number Locks
Why is it that every time you log on to a new computer the number lock is on? Is that a setting… or do people like it that way? Is there anyone who accidentally hits numbers on the right side of the keyboard? If there are, you people need to relax.

Solution:
Adjust settings on the computers so the default for the number lock is to always be off. If anyone know’s why people lock their number on the keyboard please leave a reply or email me.

2. “Office Hours”
In college, teachers often attach office hours to their syllabus. This is all fine and dandy, but nothing is worse than when I show up to office hours and the teacher isn’t there. Thats bullshit.

Solution:
Get rid of office hours all together and set up appointments via email like everyone else. This would solve two problems. First, the students would never have to show up to the teachers office hours and find a note on the door saying Back in 10 Minutes (this infuriates me). My time is just as valuable as yours. Hey teachers (excuse me, professors), how pissed would you be if showed up to a meeting with your attorney and there was a sign on his office that said back in 10?
Second, the meetings would be more productive. Every time I go into office hours there is always a feeling of ‘lets move it along’ on both sides. A set meeting time would increase productivity.

3. The post car wash window roll down
When you get a car wash and accidentally roll the windows down after. This leaves those nasty  streaks that you can only get rid of with another car wash.

Solution:
I’m not really sure here. Maybe a car company could install some kind of car wash detector that warns you of the streaks before you roll down your windows after you get a car wash. Kind of like on computers when you are about to do something and then that little pop up comes and says “Are you sure you want to do this?”

4. Guys at the gym who wear jogging shorts circa the 80’s
Nothing is worse than when I am getting a workout in and I see some guy with shorter shorts on than most of the girls in there. Whats worse is that this guy is usually doing some type of stretch or ab workout which only makes matters worse.
Side note for guys: “If a woman wanted to be left alone, she’d run in the park. A single woman at a gym is probably more open to approach than you think.” – Helen Fisher, Ph.D., a biological anthropologist at Rutgers.

Solution:
As of right now there is no known solution for this problem. Long hairy legs continue to terrorize gyms worldwide.

5. An email link on your website that opens Outlook on my computer

Earth to anyone trying to get emails sent to them: Just because you are all set up with outlook on your computer doesn’t mean the rest of the world is. When I try to click on your name to find your email address and my computer comes to an almost freeze for 15 seconds, I get pissed. Please stop.

Solution:
I think this speaks for itself

6. When you hit the power button on your computer and it was already on.
Let me clarify: Your computer is on (maybe the monitor is off) and you hit the power button. THEN, you turn your monitor on only to see the “Windows Is Shutting Down” message on your screen.

Solution: None
As much as I hate this annoying little problem, it is a necessary evil. Sometimes all hell breaks loose and you are forced to hit the power button out of disgust and angst. The next step is of course the classic unplugging of the computer. We have all been here — sometimes you need to unplug them just to remind them who’s boss.
